"Tale about the Lost Time" was the first VEU (Night of Esthetic Joys) after the pandemic pause. A slightly belated moment of summing up the results of the Moscow decade, during which a lot has been done by our own hands. On the eve of 2022, we decided to take a look at what happened from 2011 to 2021. We put this idea into the script of a slightly naive, moderately insane “Research Institute, where employees studied time. Each of our artists was such an employee, presenting at the VEU Conference 2022 a scientific report in an artistic form.

We worked on a large-scale musical in collaboration with a theater director Yuri Kvyatkovsky. Among the artists: Ivan Dorn, Monetochka, Cream Soda, Noize MC, Mujuice, Yuri Usachev from "Gosty is Buduschego", Антоха МС and many others. No one performed covers this year: popular songs of the main characters of the evening have already became the hits of the decade, which we summed up with the event.

From the previous VEU (Night of Esthetic Joys) events it was clear that the tickets will be sold out at once, so we needed a big and impressive site. Cultural Center “ ZIL”, which hosted a big festival "PAIN" before, seemed perfect to us. Each hall, corridor and lecture hall (and even an observatory tower with a telescope!) have turned into separate dance halls and partner zones, sometimes decorated beyond recognition.

Traditionally, the venue inspired us for the scenario: aesthetics of Soviet constructivism, frozen time of ZIL corridors and the solid rows of books of the local library seemed to be the perfect scenery for the plot about the magical research institute.

Grant’s and Tete de Cheval were in charge of the bars. G-shock created an installation with seconds frozen on the brand's watches, Pure cooperated with Popoff Kitchen for a report at the Department of Total Emancipation, Avivir partnered with the developers of sound installations Playtronica, in general, each of our commercial partners has found friends to their liking.

The dress code was a mixture of nostalgic and fairy-tale folklore images, based on the story of the Strugatsky brothers "Monday begins on Saturday".

Design

The identity of VEU 2022 deconstructed the "Russian" cultural identity, working with canonical folklore figures, meanings and images. The visual world was built on rhythmicity, brightness and symmetry. Art director Ilona Skorobulatova and designer Denis Ivanov worked on the project.
